Just a quick update on the upcoming Experience Cards expansion for the Combat Cards & Fantasy Cards.

Everything is progressing nicely, and the expansion should be available for download very soon. While the expansion seems simple in design, playtests have shown using the Experience Cards adds a whole new level of exciting detail and challenge to battles. It has also lead to some rather interesting scenario possibilities – more on that later though.

In conjunction with the release of the Experience Cards, there will be a new Legendary Battles utilizing the Experience Cards as well. This pack will focus on mid-war Eastern Front action during World War II and will again feature all of the maps and game pieces needed to play the included scenarios, as well numerous extra pieces to design your own scenarios.

Well, we can sort of let the cat out of the proverbial bag a little now. Another expansion for the Combat Cards is in playtest as we speak.

This one is specifically designed for the gear-head players out there – by allowing folks to bring different technological effects into the game to better fine tune units. With the new expansion you can apply features like shaped charged warheads, improved fire control and limited traverse weaponry to your units, all of which will affect the unit’s performance on the battlefield in one way or another.

The expansion is being designed in such a way as to allow folks to use it either deliberately to recreate the actual strengths & weakness of historical units, or to randomly apply features in the case of “what-if” or futuristic scenarios (or post-apocalyptic, or space colonization, or alien invasion, or… you get the idea).

More information will be coming soon so stay tuned!

Tips & Tricks… Game Pieces

Monday, December 5th, 2011

With the release of the Legendary Battles packs, we have gotten a few questions on how we cut out the round games pieces so crisply and how we turned those into full-fledged cardboard pieces.

As for cutting out the pieces, we use a 3/4″ inch circular scrapbooking punch, available at most crafting stores (e.g. Michaels, Joann Etc., Amazon.com, etc.). Depending on the model, you simply flip it over, line it up on the outer edge of the game piece and punch!

To turn the punched out pieces into full thickness tokens it is a little more involved (and there are a couple of different methods). Our friends over at Boardgamegeek.com have some forum threads that do a better job of explaining these processes than we can.  We recommend checking out this link:

For our maps, we just print them out on the heaviest possible cardstock (usually #110 lb. stock), trim them up and put them under Plexiglas when we are playing. Some folks however, like to mount them on a heavy matt board for a more “polished” feel. Again, our friends over at Boardgamegeek.com have a great discussion about doing that:

Some of these methods may require a little practice & patience, but the results will be a very nice game that you can show off to your friends – and play for years to come!
